When it comes to Crohn’s Disease, we all know that anything we can do to improve gut health is essential. Unfortunately, many foods that promote gut health are not often tolerated by people with Crohn’s. Although fermented foods, such as Kimchi, (a fermented Koran side dish typically made with cabbage,) can provide amazing probiotic benefits, many people with Crohn’s struggle to digest the cabbage – partly because of the high fiber content. That is why I have been looking into RADISH kimchi. Have you ever tried it? While cabbage has a reputation for causing flatulence, radishes on the other hand, have a calming effect on the digestive system and can help relieve bloating.  Although everyone with Crohn’s handles food differently, radish kimchi may be an option that works better than traditional kimchi for you.  Often served with rice, over ramen, or served as a meat topping, kimchi is delicious and can greatly increase your gut health. In fact, many people argue that kimchi is “the” absolute superfood, dubbing it the healthiest food in the world. You can buy radish kimchi at many stores or online, but if you want to make sure to have complete control over all of your ingredients (to ensure it isn’t too spicy, sugary, or have any ingredients that work against you,) here is a great recipe to experiment with. It is much easier to make than you would think. (There are many other alternative recipes, such as using cucumbers as the main ingredient.)  See what works best for you and give it a try!

Ingredients:

  • Koren Radish
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Fish Sauce
  • Green Onions
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Red Hot Pepper Flakes (If these are too spicy for you, simply leave them out. Perhaps cayenne, or chili powder may work for you as well.)
